Hi, I’m Lex.
I’m a fitness coach and conflict facilitator, and I’ve spent the last 20 years in lots of different roles in social justice movements. I do a few different kinds of work, and the thread that connects them is about protecting & caring for what’s precious to us — our bodies, our relationships, each other — in a time of a immense violence and destruction.
I’m a fitness coach because moving my body has brought a lot of joy and support to my life. In my fitness practice, I work mostly with people who want to move more but have been alienated by the fitness industry. Having a body is complicated, and it’s a privilege to get to work with people as they figure out how to be with theirs.
I work with conflict because I’m longing for a world where we do a better job handling our differences, our movement beef, and our community conflicts. When I’ve been part of organizing projects working to replace prisons and policing with the things that actually keep us safe, that work has taught me that that punishment doesn’t change people, but that people are capable of change. As authoritarianism and climate change turn up the pressure on all of us, we need to rely on each other more than ever - but sometimes, that’s easier said than done.
I’m white and transmasculine, and I’m based in Minneapolis. In addition to being a fitness bro and a conflict nerd, I’m a shy guy who’s obsessed with cedar trees, camping in the north woods, reading sci fi and fantasy, and spending time with the people I love.
